1215 and Press Coffee
So, I have waited to write about this coffee shop because it was definitely not on our radar of coffee shops that we were going to visit while we were in Cinci. It wasn't exactly just a coffee shop. We happened upon it as we were leaving from Collective Espresso and looking at all the OTR (over-the-rhine) shops. Doren was the one who spotted it (he has a good eye) and thank God he did because who knew it was going to be the best cup of coffee that I would have in the city.
1215 is located on Vine St. between 12th and 13th. The space is more long than wide but spacious. The walls are exposed bricks and there is a beautiful selection of wines on the left all organized in built-in shelves. After the shelving the bar begins until almost at the very end of the shop and then it turns into a high bar and that is where the coffee is prepared. I really didn't know what to expect of their coffee since nobody had told me of their experience there. We just ordered a pourover of their Kivu, Rwandan that they had on bar. I let it cool for a few minutes and then..... it was like a superhero fight scene. But there wasn't any competition.
POW! BOOM!
This was it. This is why I had started this trip to find a cup of coffee like this. It literally tasted like a honeydew melon in velvety liquid form. I honestly didn't talk that much to the person who served us but I give her a thumbs up for the best pourover of the trip. Everyone around us in the bar was having a good time chatting or studying. It was during the afternoon so it definitely seemed like a wonderful place to just come and relax without dealing with the night crowd.
Okay you must be wondering, where was this coffee roasted??? Don't worry I wasn't going to keep that bit information away from you darlings. It was so amazing that when we left Cincinnati and we decided to visit the roaster's shop front. Just head a little north and you will come to a small city called Dayton and you will find Press Coffee which is the shop front for Wood Burl Coffee. Let me just tell ya, there was some insane highway construction going on so we got terribly turned around. But after that we didn't have much trouble finding it. It wasn't that far from downtown but it definitely felt like a neighborhood cafe. Press was very clean, white and with lots of wood. Oak I believe. The manager was working that day and she gave us great service! I deicided to go with a cold brew. My husband thought I was a little crazy since it was 40 degrees outside with an intense wind-chill but when cold brew calls your name you can turn it down. It was very smooth and aside all the flavor profiling it was just one of those days where I didn't care, I just wanted to enjoy the cold brew for what it was; which was daaaaaaamn good. Doren got his capp and we agreed it was the best we had tasted since starting our trip.
